Exposure & Experiences - the Impact of Intersession Programming

At Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond, our youth programming is broken up into four sessions throughout the year with program experiences varying each session. All programs connect back to the five outcome areas we strive to help youth attain:

  • Personal Health & Awareness - knowing how to build healthy habits
  • Goal Setting - completing self-identified goals
  • Career and Business Exploration - aligning skills and interests with career opportunities
  • Civic Engagement - building postive social connections and being active in their community
  • Academic Success - meeting grade level requirements and being on track to graduate high school

During program sessions, Club staff and subject matter experts facilitate programs that foster creativity and exploration. Intersessions are two-week periods between sessions where Clubs engage in experiences that build community and encourage continuous high-yield learning.

Intersession activities and programs include enrichment workshops, guest speakers, reflection activities, and offsite exploratory activities. Members and staff value intersessions as an opportunity to not only increase engagement with our partners but also continuously build positive relationships and build social capital - exposing the youth to new career opportunities in which to strive for in their future.

By partnering with different organizations and programs, we are able to constantly offer new activities that excite and engage Club members.
